Saturday we did our first round of house hunting here in New York. What an adventure! We were gone for 5 hours and we saw a grand total of 3 houses!!! That is just an example of how far apart things are up here. Prior to moving up here we had about 6 - 10 houses picked out that were in our price range. Last week about 5 of them got contracts and we discovered major issues with 2 of them, so we really only had three left to look at in our price range.
One of the houses we looked at was situated on a precipice above a deep river. It had a yard around it but the bank dropped off almost vertical. The house itself was so crooked inside it almost made one sea sick to walk through it. The second house was pretty. Some one had gutted and dressed up the inside. They had not entirely remodeled though. The floors were crooked and spongy in spots and the quality of the craftsmanship was very low. They had exterior hollow, plastic, porch railing on the stairs. Yuck!
The final house has potential. I.E. it is solid but it was redecorated in the 60's :) Lots of paneling and ugly wall paper. It is on an acre lot with a barn and fruit trees. It is located on a quiet country road right outside of a nice little town. We will post pictures when we put in a contract. We may also go look at more houses too.
